Dr. thao nguyen

My name is Thao Nguyen and I received my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University. As a child, I would often asked the question “why”? Not in a defiant manner but from a genuine deep curiosity. Pondering it now, I can see how invaluable this one word became to my future journey.

In 2010, my father exhibited drug-induced hepatitis in addition to other chronic conditions. At that time, he was taking eight different medications and not knowing “why”. I reviewed the list of medications and researched the mechanism of action and its side effects. My goal was to wean him off the prescriptions that I felt confident I could replace safely with dietary and lifestyle modifications. Within six months, my father’s liver enzymes returned to normal and I safely eliminated six out of the eight medications. I witnessed first-hand, what dietary/lifestyle changes can do and if we allow our bodies the chance to heal, most of the time it will.

He is now 85 years young, self-reliant, healthy and thriving. This journey with my father led me to discover Naturopathic Medicine.

During my time at Bastyr, I completed additional training in craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, kinesio taping, aromatherapy, foot reflexology and environmental medicine. My undergraduate degree focused on nutrition. In 2015, I completed the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) from California State University, Los Angeles.

I offer visits that focus on mental wellness, nutrition and craniosacral therapy. My holistic approach towards health includes the mind, the body and spirit. I am not dogmatic in my approach to healing and view the human body is part of a larger ecosystem.

The human condition is collectively shared. We all have and/or will experiences loss, grief, anxiety, depression and loneliness alongside its duality of love, peace, joy, enthusiasm and companionship. A life coaching session with me will help guide you to the root cause of these experiences without having to feel isolated and disconnected from society. You are not alone.

My approach to mental health is influenced by the teachings of: Michael Alan Singer, Esther Perel (Belgian psychotherapist) and Sadhguru (Yoga mystic visionary) who founded The Isha Foundation, The Socratic Method and The Stoics.

We are living in a miracle, which is the human body. Imagine if you only had one car, one apartment and/or one house for the rest of your life. How would you care for it?

A nutrition/wellness visit with me will help you view your body in a completely different light. My desire is for you to appreciate your body and all that it does for you every day. This mindset will cultivate an internal dialogue of gratitude, which will support your goals and not work against it.

People often inquire what craniosacral therapy is. Craniosacral therapy is a unique, gentle form of bodywork that bridges the realms of both physical palpation and energetic work. Everything is a form of energy. Our thoughts, emotions, emit energy. Energy likes to flow. Think of the term we use often currency (money), current is meant to flow. Modalities such as craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, yoga, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, to name a few, all support the movement/flow and alignment of internal energy within the cells of the human system. Emotions resulting from negative life experiences, if not released are held in the cells of our system, resulting in tightness and restriction in the body. A Craniosacral Therapy session with me will assist your body in softening and releasing these areas of restriction.

I feel strongly about the importance of a patient/provider connection that fosters the feeling of safety, where patients feel valued, seen and heard. It must be a good fit and in order to facilitate this, I offer a free 15-minute consult with new patients.

When I am not connecting with patients, you can find me solo in the mountains, by a body of water, with my two cats, bird watching and being an alchemist in the kitchen.
