Phi Lan Nguyen, Acupuncturist
My name is Phi-Lan Nguyen, and I am the co-owner and founder of Zen Attitude Acupuncture in Honolulu, Hawaii. From a young age, I witnessed the transformative effects of acupuncture through my family. Seeing loved ones leave treatments feeling relaxed, renewed, and joyful inspired my lifelong dedication to this healing art.
At 16, my mother suffered her third and most severe stroke. I quickly learned the responsibilities of caregiving and the frustrations of limited recovery resources. Within a year, both occupational and physical therapists noted her progress had plateaued—she struggled to walk, prepare meals, and express herself verbally. Our family was told that most stroke survivors see minimal recovery after two years. However, this timeline didn’t consider alternative therapies like acupuncture.
Through Eastern medicine, my mother’s recovery continued well beyond conventional expectations. Today, more than two decades post-stroke, she is walking independently, managing daily activities, communicating verbally, and living life fully. While Western medicine saved her life, it was acupuncture and holistic care that significantly improved her quality of life—a currency I am passionate about increasing for every patient.
As a licensed acupuncturist, my focus is on improving your overall health and quality of life. Whether it’s a tune-up, chronic or acute condition, or support alongside other healthcare providers, I am committed to delivering results through integrative and personalized care.
I earned dual Masters of Science degrees in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University in 2010. I specialize in neurological conditions, including:
- Stroke rehabilitation
- Nerve impingements and neuropathy
