F.A.Q.
Do you offer telemedicine appointments?

We offer Telemedicine appointments for Naturopathic and functional medicine at this time through our Seattle location. Most insurances now cover Telemedical appointments. Please contact us via our webform or give us a call to get scheduled.

When should I arrive for my appointment?

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early for your appointment, especially if it’s a new patient appointment. Paperwork must be completed before your appointment starts.

What is your cancellation policy?

Yes, our cancellation policy is 24 hours ahead of your scheduled appointment. You will be charged a fee if you cancel within this time or no show.

Why do I have to fill out an intake?

In order for the provider to bill the exam appointments, the intakes are key in providing us with the information we need. We ask about your health history to get a better idea of what you have been through in the past to get an idea of what you may need in the future.

Why do I need to do an Exam?

In order for your insurance to cover your visits, they require an exam or evaluation about ever 30-90 days. We must bill for this and write up additional notes to show medical necessity.

Can I schedule multiple services in one day?

Depending on what your insurance will cover, you should be able to schedule multiple services in a day.

How do I know what my benefits are?

You can contact your plan provider directly (number found on the back of your card).

How do I know how much I will be paying before my appointment?

We unfortunately cannot always give you an exact amount ahead of time because it depends on two factors:

1. Your treatment and your insurance. Treatment plans are different per patient depending on what you and your provider discuss in your appointment.

2. It depends on if you have copay, if your subject to the deductible, and how much your coinsurance covers.

Who do I contact if I have a billing question?

Please contact us directly for any billing questions. Our clinic contact information is provided above for all of our locations.

Please pick a time that accommodates you best. There may be some time slots not shown. If you are experiencing difficulties, feel free to call or text our office at (206) 586-8176. For existing patients, you may also access the portal here.

If you'd like to find out what your benefits are, please call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to verify your benefits and check whether your plan gives you coverage for our office.

Kanani Kanoa Valentine, Acupuncturist in Bellevue

Kanani is an acupuncturist at Zen Attitude in Bellevue & Seattle, Washington, with a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Middle Way Acupuncture Institute in Mount Vernon, Washington. Holistic health has been woven into her life since childhood. Growing up between the Bay Area and Hawaiʻi in an Asian and Pacific Islander household, she witnessed family members use a wide range of alternative therapies and home remedies. Seeing how effective these approaches could be sparked her early interest in integrative medicine.

Her commitment to Chinese Medicine solidified at age 17 during a trip to China. After developing an infection from antibiotics prescribed before her travels, she experienced both Western and holistic medical care while abroad. The seamless integration of the two systems left a lasting impression and inspired her to bring that level of collaboration back home.

Determined to pursue this path, Kanani earned an associate’s degree with a focus in Clinical Psychology from Everett Community College before continuing on to Middle Way to study Chinese Medicine. She has long been an advocate for mental health awareness and support within her communities. Throughout her training, she developed skills to help address conditions such as PTSD, addiction, Bipolar II, and anxiety. She also received mentorship in trigger point therapy, orthopedic-style pain treatments, digestive health, and other specialized modalities.

Outside the clinic, Kanani enjoys spending time with her husband and their three cats. She loves video games, board games, and Dungeons & Dragons. She is part of a Hawaiian Hula dance school, enjoys drawing, and heads to the beach whenever she can to enjoy the ocean and catch a good surf session.

Mary Berube, Acupuncturist in Bellevue

Mary Berube is a licensed acupuncturist at Zen Attitude in Bellevue & Seattle and holds a Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Bastyr University, but her relationship with this medicine began long before her formal education. Her path was shaped by personal necessity and real results, experiences that now drive her dedication to patient-centered care.

Mary’s introduction to acupuncture started while she was serving in the U.S. Navy. After an unplanned C-section, she struggled with scar tissue and lingering pain that conventional methods could not resolve. She sought out acupuncture, and the restoration of function she experienced sparked a curiosity that eventually became her calling. Years later, Mary turned to Chinese herbal medicine to help with fertility challenges and recurrent loss. The success of this approach led to two healthy, unmedicated home births and confirmed her belief in the body’s innate ability to heal.

This transformative potential is what led Mary to Bastyr. She brings a unique blend of compassion and discipline to her practice, applying the rigorous attention to detail she developed in the Navy Nuclear Power program to every case she treats.

Mary is deeply dedicated to women’s health. She has a special interest in navigating the complexities of infertility, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause. She understands that healing is rarely linear and offers a steady, grounding presence for patients facing mental and emotional stressors like anxiety and depression.

She honed her clinical skills during rotations at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Wallingford and the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership in Everett. At Providence she focused on supportive care for patients undergoing cancer treatment, helping to manage side effects such as pain, nausea, and fatigue.

Her treatments are holistic and adaptable. Mary combines acupuncture with cupping, gua sha, and moxibustion. For specific musculoskeletal issues she utilizes orthopedic trigger-point needling and electroacupuncture. She also views diet and lifestyle as essential parts of the treatment plan and works with patients to build sustainable habits outside the clinic.

When she is not working, Mary embraces the Pacific Northwest lifestyle. You can find her camping and hiking with her family, playing board games with her children, or relaxing with a good book.

Xavier Aponte, Acupuncturist, ND

A Letter From Dr. Xavier,

As many of you may already know, this will be my last week at Zen Attitude Acupuncture, with my final day in the clinic being on the 16th. Shortly after, I will be moving out of state to Miami on the 18th, beginning a new chapter in my life and journey.

It is hard to put into words how grateful I am for every moment I have shared with all of you. Throughout my journey as a practitioner, each conversation, every story, every smile, every moment of vulnerability, trust, strength, and healing has left a lasting mark on my heart. You were never just patients to me. You became part of my life, part of my growth, and part of the person and doctor I continue becoming every single day.

Thank you for allowing me into your lives and for trusting me during moments when you were in pain, searching for answers, healing, or simply needing support. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to walk alongside you in your journeys. I truly hope that, in some way, I was able to help lighten your burdens, support your healing, and bring comfort, hope, and positive change into your lives.

Please know that every treatment, every conversation, and every moment spent together mattered deeply to me. The impact you all have had on my life is something I will carry forever. You will always remain in my heart, and I will forever cherish the privilege of having been part of your healing journeys.

I also want to share that Kanani and Mary are truly incredible practitioners who care deeply for their patients and their healing journeys. They will be continuing care in the Bellevue office, and I have full confidence that you will be in wonderful hands with them. It brings me great peace knowing that such compassionate and skilled practitioners will continue supporting you all.

As this chapter comes to a close, the memories and connections we created will stay with me for the rest of my life. I leave with immense gratitude, love, and appreciation for every single one of you. Thank you for helping shape my journey, not only as a practitioner, but as a human being. Wishing you continued healing, peace, health, and balance always.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Dr. Xavier Aponte, ND, D.Ac
